Expresses purpose/intention when performing the main action: “with the intention of …, …”.
Vたつもりで: “treat it as if already done … in order to …”, used for saving/substitution.

Placed before the main action, functioning as an adverbial indicating intention/purpose.
Vたつもりで often goes with verbs of saving/substitution: 貯金する・我慢する・控える.
When emphasizing stance/role: Nのつもりで + observation/evaluation actions.
Usually expresses a subjective stance; if the objective purpose is clear, use ～ために.

Vたつもりで has a nuance of “self-restraint, substitution,” very typical in ads/slogans about saving.
The comma can be omitted in short sentences: 冗談のつもりで言ったが…

Used as a predicate: ～つもりで。× → Must be followed by a main clause.
Confused with ～ために: if only a subjective mindset → つもりで; if an objective purpose → ために.
Vたつもりで does not mean it was actually done; many traps state “didn't do it but consider it as if done”.
Incorrect combinations: Naだのつもりで × → Naなつもりで ○; Nだのつもりで × → Nのつもりで ○
