～ため（に）

Usage:

【名詞（めいし）・イ形容詞（けいようし）・ナ形容詞（けいようし）・動詞（どうし）】の名詞（めいし）修飾形（しゅうしょくけい）

Meaning:

原因（げんいん）、理由（りゆう）
cause; reason

Example:

1.  大雨（おおあめ）のため、新幹線（しんかんせん）が遅（おく）れています。
     Because of heavy rain the shinkansen arrived late.

2.  熱（ねつ）のため、ごはんが食（た）べられません。
     Because of a high fever, I couldn't eat rice.

3.  このあたりは駅（えき）から遠（とお）くて不便（ふべん）なため、自転車（じてんしゃ）を利用（りよう）する人（ひと）が多（おお）い。
     In this area, because it's far and inconvenient from the station, many people use bicycles.

4.  太（ふと）ったために、今（いま）までの洋服（ようふく）が着（き）られなくなった。
     I've become too fat to wear my old clothes.

5.  ＊パソコンがこわれた。そのため、メールが見（み）られなかった。
     The computer is broken. Therefore I couldn't check my email.

Note:
●　「～ため」の後（うし）ろには「～だろう」「～したい」などの表現（ひょうげん）は使（つか）えない。
After 「ため」 you cannot use forms that express e.g. 「したい」 or 「だろう」
     X　あと１０分（ふん）しかないため、いそいだほうがいい。→あと１０分（ふん）しかないから～
     X Because there are only 10 minutes left, it's better to hurry. → because only 10 minutes ~

Note:
●　→１０番（ばん）（「目的（もくてき）」「利益（りえき）」を表（あらわ）す「ため（に）」）
Unlike the grammar 「ため（に）」 which expresses benefit or purpose (Grammar #10)
