An offhand remark can sometimes hurt the other person.

When I casually looked outside, it was snowing.

"Thanks? Not at all — I only did what was right."

5. 「あの人（ひと）って有名（ゆうめい）な学者（がくしゃ）だよね」「とんでもない。テレビにばかり出（で）ていて、今（いま）ではすっかりタレントだよ」
"Isn't that person a famous scholar?" "Not at all. He's been on TV so much that he's become a full-fledged TV personality."

It's ridiculous to work this much for such low pay.
