～しか（～ません）

Only ~

◎ Represents that nothing else applicable exists. Similar to「だけ」, but「しか」is always used together with the negative form.

1. かれしか　カギを持（も）って　いません。
    He is the only one with a key.

2. あいている店（みせ）は、ここしか　ありません。
    This is the only store that is open.

---

～ないで

Without ~

◎ Takes the form「AないでB」, And represents that the normally performed (A) is not done, and B is done instead.

1. 弟（おとうと）は、かさを持（も）たないで出（で）かけました。
    My little brother left without an umbrella.

2. 何（なに）も　見（み）ないで　答（こた）えを書（か）いてください。
    Please write down your answer without looking at anything.

Reading

   朝（あさ）はいつも　パンを　食（た）べます。でも、けさは　へやに　飲（の）みものとやさいしか　ありませんでした。時間（じかん）も　なかったですから、何（なに）も　なかったですから、何（なに）も食（た）べないで　学校（がっこう）に　行（い）きました。
