～よう［比（ひ）ゆ］

Comparison

◎ ｢Xのよう｣ represents that something resembles another something (X).｢女の子のよう｣ means " Is actu-ally a boy but looks like a girl."

1. この　パンは　すごく　かたくて、石（いし）の　ようです。
    This bread is so hard it is like a rock.

2. ゆめの　ように　楽（たの）しい　毎日（まいにち）でした。
    Those days were so fun they were like a dream.

◎ There are cases where ｢よう｣ is placed after the plain form of a verb to represents the same meaning.

1. すごく　つかれて　いたので、けさは　死（し）んだ　ように　ねむって　いました。
    I was very tired, so I was sleeping like I was dead this morning.

～らしい

Form ~

◎ Used to state a nature or trait naturally held by a person or thing that is strongly felt.

1. あの　子（こ）は　言（い）う　ことが　おとなの　ようで、子（こ）ども　らしくない。
    That child speaks like an adult and seems very not child-like.

2. 今日（きょう）は、春（はる）らしい服（ふく）が　ほしくて、デパートに　行（い）きました。
    I wanted spring-like clothes today and so I went to the department store.

Reading

   あきらさんは　いつも　明（あか）るく　元気（げんき）で、スポーツが　大好（だいす）きな　学（がく）生（せい）です。元気（げんき）すぎて、ちょっと　うるさい　ときも　あります。でも、子（こ）どもの　ころは、体（からだ）が　小（ちい）さく、おとなしくて、声（こえ）も　小（ちい）さかったそうです。そのため、女（おんな）の子（こ）の　ようだ、　男（おとこ）の子（こ）　らしくない、などと、よく　言（い）われた　そうです。今（いま）の　あきらさんと　まったく　ちがので、その　話（はなし）を聞（き）いてわらって　しまいました。
