I was never uninterested in women, just as one might expect .
But I had barely had any true relationships with women in my youth.
It's hard to say if that was the reason why, but my interests were mostly limited to women I would meet on the street.
When I met Sensei's wife in the front of their home, I was struck by her beauty.
I felt the same way every time we met after that, as well.
But it also felt as though there was nothing else in particular to say about her.
This is not to say that there was nothing unique about her, but perhaps that she never had an opportunity to show what made her special.
Yet I always approached her as if she was nothing more than a part of Sensei.
One time, I was invited to drink at sensei's home.
His wife came and served us.
With her nearby, Sensei seemed happi-er than usual.
He told his wife to join us and handed her his empty cup.
She first hesitated before eventually taking it, seeming somewhat bothered.
She knit her beautiful brows as she took the cup, this one only about half-filled, to her lips.
A conversation began between her and Sensei.
It's quite uncommon for you to ask me to drink".
"That's because you hate sake.
But it's good to drink every now and then.
It puts you in a good mood".
"I wouldn't say so at all.
It's nothing but unpleasant for me.
But you do seem so happy when you have a bit to drink".
But that's not always the case."
"I do feel good tonight."
"You ought to start drinking just a bit each night".
Things will be less lonely that way".
Aside from Sensei and his wife, only a maid lived at their home.
It was usually quiet there.
And you would never expect to hear a laugh or a shout of joy.
It felt like at times, Sensei and I were the only ones there.
"It would be nice if we had a child" his wife said to me.
Though I told her I agreed.
I could not empathize with her.
Childless my self, I only saw children as loud littlee creatures.
"Why don’t we take one in?" Sensei said.
"Adopt? Well, dear, you know" she said before turning to me again.
"It's not as if we'll ever be able to have one on our own" he said.
"Why?" I asked in her place, to which sensei replied with a laugh "divine punishment".
