～てあげる／もらう／くれる

Usage 1:

①～　に～てあげる

Example:

1.  田中（たなか）さんはチンさんに、漢字（かんじ）の読（よ）み方（かた）を教（おし）えてあげました。
     Mr. Tanaka taught Mr. Chin how to read kanji.

2.  テイさんはりんさんにかさを貸（か）してあげました。
     Tei lent Rin an umbrella.

3.  来週（らいしゅう）の月曜日（げつようび）は母（はは）の誕生日（たんじょうび）です。わたしは（母（はは）に）料理（りょうり）をつくってあげようと思（おも）います。父（ちち）は（母（はは）に）新（あたら）しい電子（でんし）レンジを買（か）ってあげるそうです。
     Next Monday is my mother's birthday. I plan to cook for her. My father is buying her a new microwave.
     ＊行為（こうい）の対象（たいしょう）が相手（あいて）の気持（きも）ち物（もの）や体（からだ）の一部（いちぶ）であるとき→〇〇さんの～を～てあげる/
     Sometimes the object of an action is the thing someone carries or a part of the body.

4.  わたしは友（とも）だちの荷物（にもつ）を持（も）ってあげました。
     I help carry your luggage.

5.  キムさんはテイさんの仕事（しごと）を手伝（てつだ）ってあげた。
     Kimu helps Tei with work.

6.  母（はは）はけがをして両手（りょうて）が使（つか）えないので、わたしが（母（はは）の）髪（かみ）を洗（あら）ってあげた。
     My mother was injured and couldn't use her hands, so I helped wash her hair.
     ＊行為（こうい）の対象（たいしょう）が「人（ひと）」であるとき→〇〇さんを～てあげる
     * when the object of the action is a 'person' ○○さんを～てあげる

7.  わたしは友（とも）だちを駅（えき）まで迎（むか）えに行（い）ってあげました。
     I go to the station to pick you up.

8.  小林（こはやし）さんはアリさんをホテルに案内（あんない）してあげました。
     Kohayashi gave Ari directions to the hotel.

Note:
目上（めうえ）の人（ひと）や親（した）しくない相手（あいて）に対（たい）して「～てあげる」と言（い）うことはできない。
conversely, if the other person is a superior or not close, you cannot use the expression 「～てあげる」

1.  X「ドアを開（あ）けてあげましょうか」→「ドアを開（あ）けましょう」
     ✕「Can I open the door for you?」 → ○「I'll open the door.」
