1104. 生憎（あいにく）
unfortunately; regrettably

1. 古（ふる）い友人（ゆうじん）に電話（でんわ）をかけたが、あいにく彼女（かのじょ）は留守（るす）だった。
I called an old friend, but unfortunately she wasn't home.

2. 「コンサートのチケットがあるんですけど」「あいにくその日（ひ）は都合（つごう）が悪（わる）くて…」
"I have tickets for a concert." "Unfortunately, I'm not available that day..."

3. あいにくの雨（あめ）だったが、旅行（りょこう）は楽（たの）しかった。
It unfortunately rained, but the trip was enjoyable.
1105. 案（あん）の定（じょう）
as expected; sure enough

1. 怪（あや）しいと思（おも）っていたが、案（あん）の定（じょう）、彼（かれ）は犯人（はんにん）だった。
I thought he was suspicious, and sure enough, he was the culprit.

2. 勝（か）つのは難（むずか）しいと予想（よそう）していたが、結果（けっか）は案（あん）の定（じょう）だった。

This problem was so difficult that even the capable Nishikawa reportedly couldn't solve it.

5. 辛（から）いもの好（す）きの私（わたし）でも、さすがにこのカレーは食（た）べきれなかった。
Even I, who like spicy food, couldn't finish this curry.
