Is ~ ing

◎ 「～ています」expresses that the result of a change or state is continuing.

1. まどが　しまって　います。
The window is closed.

2. 妹（いもうと）は　ねて　います。
My little sister is sleeping.

１週間（しゅうかん）　前（まえ）に　母（はは）から　てがみが　来（き）ました。ふうとうの　中（なか）には、てがみと　しゃしんが　入（はい）って　いました。てがみは　３まいで、弟（おとうと）や　妹（いもうと）など、かぞくの　話（はなし）が書（か）いて　ありました。しゃしんは　２まいありました。１まいは　父（ちち）と　母（はは）が　りょこうに　行（い）った　ときのしゃしんで、もう　１まいは　家（いえ）の　サクラのしゃしんです。かぞくのみんなが　げんきで、よかったです。わたしも　すぐ　でがみを　書（か）きたかったですが、まだ　書（か）いて　いません。今週（こんしゅう）　テストが　あって時間（じかん）が　なかったです。今夜（こんや）は　もう時間（じかん）がないから、あした、大学（だいがく）から帰（かえ）った　あとに　書（か）きます。

１週間（しゅうかん）　前（まえ）に　母（はは）から　てがみが　来（き）ました。

A week ago, a letter from my mother arrived.

ふうとうの　中（なか）には、てがみと　しゃしんが　入（はい）って　いました。

Inside the envelope was a letter and photographs.

てがみは　３まいで、弟（おとうと）や　妹（いもうと）など、かぞくの　話（はなし）が書（か）いて　ありました。

The letter was pages long, and it talked about my family members, such as my little brother and little sister.

しゃしんは　２まいありました。

There were two photographs.

１まいは　父（ちち）と　母（はは）が　りょこうに　行（い）った　ときのしゃしんで、もう　１まいは　家（いえ）の　サクラのしゃしんです。

One was a photograph from when my Father and Mother went on a trip, and the other was a photograph of the cherry blossom tree at our home.

かぞくのみんなが　げんきで、よかったです。

I was glad that everyone in my family is doing well.

わたしも　すぐ　でがみを　書（か）きたかったですが、まだ　書（か）いて　いません。

I wanted to write a letter back right away, but I have not written it yet.

今週（こんしゅう）　テストが　あって時間（じかん）が　なかったです。

I had a test this week, and I did not have time.

今夜（こんや）は　もう時間（じかん）がないから、あした、大学（だいがく）から帰（かえ）った　あとに　書（か）きます。

I don't have time tonight, so I will write it after returning from universuty tomorrow.
