Part 2: Using numbers and counters

Structure

	Explanation & Guidance
	Numbers and counters always come after the particle.
	Examples
1.	A:　つくえの　うえに　ビールが　なんぼん　ありますか。 A: How many bottles of beer are on the table? B:　ろっぽん　あります。 B: There are 6 bottles.
2.	A:　かいぎしつに　なんにん　いますか。 A: How many people are in the meeting room? B:　よにん　います。 B: There are 4 people.

Part 3: Using the number of times

Structure

	Meaning
☞	～かい: Used to talk about how many times something is done. Interrogative: なんかい: How many times?
	Examples
1.	私(わたし)は　一週間(いっしゅうかん)に　二回(にかい)　映画(えいが)を　見(み)ます。 I watch movies twice a week.
2.	ナムさんは　一か月(いっかげつ)に　一回(いっかい)　田舎(いなか)へ帰(かえ)ります。 Nam goes back to his hometown once a month.

Part 4: Linking multiple types with different quantities

Structure

	Explanation & Guidance
☞	The choice of particle depends on the verb at the end of the sentence.
	Examples
1.	A: りんごを　ふたつと　バナナを　さんぼん　ください。 A: Please give me two apples and 3 bananas. B: はい、わかりました。 B: Certainly.
2.	机(つくえ)の上(うえ)に　卵(たまご)が　にこと　パンが　ひとつと　コーヒーが　一杯(いっぱい)　あります。 There are two eggs, a slice of bread, and a cup of coffee on the table.

Part 5: ~ ぐらい：about ~

Structure

	Meaning
☞	ぐらい: approximately
	Explanation & Guidance
☞	Always follows the number/counter.
	Examples
1.	教室(きょうしつ)に　がくせいが　２０人(にん)ぐらい　います。 There are about twenty students in the class.
2.	ゆうべ　ビールを　５本(ほん)ぐらい　飲(の)みました。 I drank about 5 bottles of beer last night.

Part 6: どのくらい：How long?

Structure
	When answering, you may use ぐらい or omit it.
	Meaning
☞	どのくらい: How long? How much/how many?
	Explanation & Guidance
☞	Used to ask about duration and quantity. You can use どのくらい or どのぐらい to ask.
	Examples
1.	A:　どのくらい　日本(にほん)へ行(い)きますか。 A: How long are you going to Japan for? B:　三か月(さんかげつ)ぐらい　行(い)きます。 B: About 3 months.
2.	A:　大阪(おおさか)から　東京(とうきょう)まで　新幹線(しんかんせん)で　どのくらい　かかりますか。 A: How long does it take by Shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo? B:　２時間(じかん)半(はん)　かかります。 It takes two and a half hours.

Part 7: だけ：only

Structure

	Meaning
☞	だけ：only
	Explanation & Guidance
☞	だけ replaces the particles を、が。
	Examples
1.	私(わたし)は　肉(にく)などを　食(た)べません。やさいだけ　たべます。 I don't eat meat... I only eat vegetables.
2.	家(いえ)の　ワンちゃんは　牛乳(ぎゅうにゅう)だけ　好(す)きです。 My dog only likes milk.
